A Canadian tourist on Monday morning collapsed and died on spot in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Kisoro district, South Western Uganda, while tracking gorillas.

75 year old Gregory Plifold officials say, met his death at Mpororo in Rushaga Zone, while tracking the Bwiza gorilla family in company of seven other tourists.

The deceased was brought by Pinnacle Tourist Company together with other tourists. He had spent the previous night with the friends at Cephas Inn in Kabale before they set off to Rushaga.

While he looked in good health, authorities say, his death could have been as a result of an unnoticed ailment.

Jossy Muhangi the Uganda Wildlife Authority public relations officer says police has been informed of the death of the tourist and investigations are underway.

Winnie Nwagi at Heathrow Airport in the UK
The top selling female artist for the moment, Winnie Nwagi, was in London just in time for yesterday’s show. Before leaving for the UK, Winnie first performed at the USPA Gala at Serena hotel and later in the night, she was at Guvnor to perform alongside Afrigo Band.

“Very exciting next 24 hours for me.. 3 shows, 1 day, 2 cities, 2 continents.. Serena first, Guvnor and we kill it in London. God above all..”

The moment she was done with the first show, she bounced back to her wall with this post; “One down.. USPA gala was awesome. Next Guvnor UG, then my UK fans in about 18 hours.”

Nwagi was part of the line up of artists performing at the Nva Kampala show held at Royal Regency in London on Apr 30. Other artistes that performed were Apass, Adam Mulwana of the Toka Kwabalabala fame.

Omusawo, Kibulamu, Embeera, Katono and Science are some of Winnie’s songs…It’s not yet clear if she pulled it off after two shows and flying to the UK. Snoops there are still knocked down as the only reports available are to do with Winnie’s arrival at Heathrow airport.

Safaricom has been awarded Best Multi-Market Communications and Best Microsite for its Capture Kenya campaign, at the first ever African Excellence Awards held recently in Cape Town, South Africa.

The annual awards are held to honour outstanding achievements in the field of PR and Communications across five continents, and also saw Safaricom emerge 1st Runner Up In the Social Media category.

Capture Kenya is an annual campaign by Safaricom designed to nurture photography in Kenya. The campaign was launched in 2013 and seeks to work with talented Kenyan photographers to showcase the beauty of Kenyan landscapes, people and culture through photography.

It involves commissioning professional and promising amateur photographers to capture the best of Kenya in line with a prescribed theme each year; images captured are then showcased in Safaricom’s annual calendar and other marketing collateral.

In 2015 the theme was #ThisIsMyKenya (www.thisismykenya.co.ke). It sought to encourage Kenyans to take charge of the Kenyan narrative by telling audiences – both locally and abroad – positive stories, sharing glimpses into everyday life in Kenya and publicly appreciating the country’s beauty through social media.

Commenting on the win, Safaricom C.E.O. Bob Collymore said: “It is a great honour to be recognised for a campaign that we launched to encourage positive storytelling not just for us a brand, but for the people we serve; Kenyans.”

He added: “We are grateful to have had an opportunity to work with some of Kenya’s most talented photographers and bloggers to create a collection of images and stories that reflect a side of Kenya that many people forget to appreciate, and in that way steer the conversation back to positivity.”

The Excellence Awards are hosted by Communication Director, a renowned quarterly magazine whose readership comprises of global decision makers in the corporate communications, PR and public affairs practices.

“Over the past years, we have noticed a growing demand for companies and communication agencies to benchmark themselves with other communication professionals in the field. Competitions like the African Excellence Awards mean new opportunities and endorsement for organisations, and we’ve set out to provide this by introducing Awards that recognise African creativity and content,” said Rudolf Hetzel, Chairman of the Jury and Publisher of Communication Director magazine.

The Excellence Awards are a global brand that started in Europe ten years ago before growing to become a worldwide competition that celebrates the best that African PR has to offer.

North Korea’s army chief is ‘back from the dead’ after false claims Kim Jong-un had him executed

The former chief of North Korea’s army is NOT dead, despite claims that Kim Jong-un had him executed earlier this year.

Military chief Ri Yong Gil was the chief of the general staff for Kim Jong-un’s regime, after having been appointed to the role in August 2013.

Reports earlier this year suggested he had been executed following a series of allegations involving corruption.

It was also claimed that Gil was forming a political faction to rival dictator Kim Jong-un.

And reports of his demise only gathered pace when North Korea announced a new chief of staff, Ri Myong Su, in the weeks after the rumours surrounding Gil emerged.

South Korea’s Defense Ministry spokesman Kwon Ki Hyun declined to confirm the report at the time.

However the story was put out by intelligence agencies working in South Korea.

They have now been left red-faced though, as Gil this morning was named as having been appointed to a new, high-ranking position for the Workers’ Party of Korea’s Central Committee.

The reshuffle has also seen many senior officials in the North Korean army demoted.

It is thought that Kim Jong-un has promoted young blood in a bid to solidify his position.
